Commission for the Consultation of the Amnesty Law Project received more than 2,700 proposals

The president of the Special Commission for the Consultation of the Amnesty Bill for Democratic Coexistence, deputy Jorge Arreaza, took stock of the day of the national consultation and discussion of the project, highlighting the deployment carried out throughout the national territory where they held meetings with various sectors of the social and political life of the country, this with the objective of collecting proposals to consider for the second discussion of the project

He thanked the members of the commission for their participation and the work done and reported that they received more than 2,700 written contributions and assured that contributions to the Amnesty Law are still arriving.

Arreaza made references to the history of the victims of the so-called guarimbas of 2014 and 2017, especially that of the mother of young Orlando Figuera, who was burned alive “for looking like a Chavista” in the events of 2017.

He highlighted that assemblies were held in the 25 states of the country and added that the magistrate, Thania DAmelio, informed him that the justices of the peace were motivated to develop consultation processes in 2,266 communities, where more than 25,000 residents participated.

For her part, deputy Nora Bracho, member of the Libertad parliamentary group and vice president of the Special Commission for the Consultation of the Amnesty Bill for Democratic Coexistence, who is in charge of drafting the report on the national consultation of the draft law, highlighted that “reconciliation does not mean erasing history, it does not mean surrendering to the conflict, but overcoming it.”

He insisted that Venezuela can correct and build agreements that transcend despite the differences. «We do not intend to minimize the pain of the victims, but rather a step towards recognizing that there were fractures and that the State must guarantee the security of Venezuelans. (…) this law can be a starting point for a different stage, where democratic coexistence is the difference, as well as respect for the Constitution, where no one feels afraid for thinking differently. The Amnesty law can be an important step and we confirm that we are committed to meeting the country,” he stated.

Next, he thanked everyone for their contributions to this law. “Today we support most of these initial articles, betting on a better future for Venezuelans and opening a stage of respect for dissidence.”
