This Wednesday, February 11, the coordinator of the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM) in the Senate, Manuel Velasco Coello, considered Ruth González will be the next governor of the entity, despite the fact that the current governor is her husband.
“In the polls that we have done in the party, he is up two to one, with a wide advantage of more than 20 points. I hope he cheers up,” said the senator of the Republic.
After the revelation, the senator stated that at this moment she is focused on her work in the Legislative Branch.
“Right now my work is focused on the Senate. I think the important thing right now is to work,” he indicated.
When questioned about this possible nomination, the president assured that “it is not right for there to be a direct succession of a family member.”
For this reason, he recalled that months ago he sent a reform initiative to avoid nepotism, a prohibition that remained in the Constitution as of 2030, but Morena will implement it from 2027.
“Not only is it my position, but Morena’s position was made public. In the Constitution it was stated that from 2030 a family member cannot succeed in a popularly elected position, that was left in the Constitution. Be it for deputies, for senator, for governor or for president. No popularly elected position can be succeeded in the immediate period, no person who is a family member can enter. That is from 2030,” he highlighted.
The federal president added that if a party allied with Morena gives the candidacy to a family member, the party must determine if it agrees to go in alliance.
