The food distributed by the WFP, about six tons, would be distributed to about 200 families and students in schools with exclusively river access in the Capure area, in the Pedernales municipality of the Delta Amacuro state.
The World Food Program (WFP) reported on Wednesday that a boat carrying six tons of food capsized in a remote area of the Delta Amacuro state, which was part of its school meals program, with no injuries or deaths reported.
“The human team is good and that is what is important,” said the director in charge of the WFP in Venezuela, Andrés Rodríguez, quoted in a press release.
Likewise, he said that they are already investigating the causes of the incident and taking measures to prevent it from happening again.
The six tons of food, according to the publication, would be distributed to about 200 families and students in schools with exclusively river access in the Capure area, in the Pedernales municipality of the Delta Amacuro state.
“We are already working to replenish food and ensure that families receive support as soon as possible,” Rodríguez added.
The WFP maintained that since 2022, the school meals program reaches more than 200 schools in Delta Amacuro, mainly located in Warao indigenous communities, which can only be reached by river.
