The Ministry of Health (Ssa) reported that to combat the transmission of measles, 27.3 million vaccines were purchased, of which more than 23 million are already available for application. During 2025 and until February 6, 14 million 297 thousand 330 doses have been administered.

The strategy contemplates vaccinating 12-month-old children as a priority for the first dose of measles, rubella and mumps (MMR), for those who are 18 months old the second dose of the same biological and for those aged six, the booster is applied.

The federal agency indicated that the immunogen is also applied to babies between six and 12 months of age if they live in areas with active measles outbreaks. They receive a dose called “0” (zero).

People under 49 years of age who do not have the complete vaccination schedule or do not remember having received it, as well as agricultural laborers, migrants and the highly mobile population, especially in entities with the highest incidence of the disease, should also receive a dose.

According to the report from the General Directorate of Epidemiology of the Ssa, as of February 10, measles transmission is still active and 9,074 cases have already been confirmed in 319 municipalities in the 32 states of the Republic.

So far in 2026, Jalisco occupies first place with 1,529 affected; Chiapas follows, with 282; CDMX, 149, and Sinaloa with 144.

In Chihuahua, where the outbreak originated last year, when it accumulated 4,493 cases, in 2026 the presence of measles has been confirmed in 12 people.

The most affected age group nationwide are babies less than one year old with an incidence rate of 51.13 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, followed by children from one to four years old, with 15.64 per 100 thousand, and those from five to nine years old, with 10.43.

Also in people aged 20 to 24, 25 to 29 and 30 to 34 years of age, a high rate is recorded with 7.90, 9.25 and 8.24 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, respectively.

In Durango, first death; cases decrease in Chiapas

The Department of Health of Durango announced yesterday the first death from measles in the entity so far this year.

The head of the agency, Moisés Nájera, reported that it is an eight-year-old boy, belonging to a family of agricultural laborers originally from the municipality of Mezquital, which had recently returned from Sinaloa.

Nájera emphasized that this case shows the need to strengthen vaccination, especially among the day laborer population, as these are groups that are constantly moving, which increases the possibility of contagion.

The health authorities specified that this year there have been 23 confirmed cases in the entity.

In 2025, 40 positive cases and one death related to this condition were reported, corresponding to an agricultural worker from Sonora, who died in the municipality of Tlahualilo.

Meanwhile, the government of Nayarit indicated that there will be 29 confirmed cases of measles in the state in 2026; 13 of them in Bahía de Banderas, six in Compostela, four in Tecuala and the rest in Santiago Ixcuintla, San Pedro Lagunillas, San Blas, Rosamorada, Ixtlán del Río and Xalisco

The Morelos Health Secretariat reported eight positive cases this year.

In Chiapas, the authorities detailed that the entity has accumulated 479 confirmed cases of the disease since the beginning of the outbreak, in February 2025; However, a decrease is recorded during the first weeks of this year, due to an intense vaccination campaign.

In this context, the director of the Industrial Union of the State of Mexico, Francisco Cuevas Dobarganes, asked the more than 490 member companies to take preventive measures to protect the health of workers, suppliers and customers.
