The Ministry of Transport and Communications made official the approval of exceptional technical specifications for the issuance of plates for motorcycles and other smaller vehicles of category L.
The measure was published through Directorial Resolution No. 006-2026-MTC/18 in the official newspaper El Peruano.
The provision is based on the Tenth Final Complementary Provision of the National Single License Plate Regulation, incorporated by Supreme Decree No. 005-2026-MTC.
According to technical reports from competent areas of the sector, a situation arose that affects the regular license plate issuance process, which motivated the adoption of temporary criteria to avoid the paralysis of the system.
The new plates will have dimensions of 17 cm long by 20 cm high, will include six larger characters on a white background and will have a hologram and laser-engraved security code.
“The approval of these exceptional technical specifications for the license plates of motorcycles and smaller vehicles responds precisely to a key objective, the fight against insecurity. We are guaranteeing that each vehicle can be identified quickly, reliably and safely by the authorities,” said Minister Aldo Prieto.
