The federal president rejected that loading fuel to fly to Cuba generates any type of sanction from the United States Government, which a few days ago warned that additional tariffs would be imposed on those who send crude oil to the island.
Due to the United States oil blockade, the Government of Cuba informed foreign airlines that they cannot count on jet fuel to operate. Despite this, airlines such as Aeroméxico and Viva Aerobús reported that they are maintaining their flights to the island.
At the moment, one of the airlines that has already suspended its flights is Air Canada.
After threats from the United States, the Government of Mexico suspended the shipment of crude oil to Cuba to avoid being subject to any sanctions following the executive order signed by Trump. However, the president seeks to reach an agreement through diplomatic channels to resume its shipments.
Humanitarian aid will continue to be sent
The president reported that her government will continue sending humanitarian aid to Cuba. The first shipment will arrive tomorrow and will return to Mexico for more supplies.
“We are sending what we had, in addition to the support that is normally given through Amexcid,” said the president.
Last Sunday, the Armed Forces ships “Papaloapan” and “Isla Holbox” left Veracruz for Cuba with liquid and powdered milk, meat products, cookies, beans, rice, tuna in water, sardines and vegetable oil, as well as personal hygiene items.
