The first indicative discrepancy lies in the companion chosen by Julio Scherer Ibarra to write the book titled Neither revenge nor forgivenessfrom Planeta publishing house: Jorge Fernández Menéndez, of Argentine origin and naturalized Mexican, has conducted himself in a way that could have been considered radically different not only from his father’s school of journalism, but from the political and professional conception of the former legal advisor of the Obrador presidency.

The book in question, however, is mentioned in the prologue by Fernández Menéndez as “a talk between friends”, in which Scherer Ibarra recounts in depth and detail the behind-the-scenes of the part of the Obrero government in which he had to participate. Together with Raúl Quintanilla he was the director of the documentary The night of Iguala (2015; then, in 2018, there was a derivative book, from the Cal y Arena publishing house).

In the same 2015, journalist Luis Hernández Navarro wrote: “The documentary The night of Iguala It is the latest cultural product of the season created to slander the normalistas of Ayotzinapa and hide the government’s responsibility in the tragedy. Without any journalistic rigor, presenting lies as if they were truths, falsifying the central facts of the attack on September 26, 2014, it seeks to turn the victims into perpetrators” ( Regeneration: goo.su/S22SI7x).

In November 2011, Fernández Menéndez had married Bibiana Belsasso (who are about to celebrate 17 years as hosts of the Todo Personal program on ADN-40, a channel that Ricardo Salinas Pliego’s group took over after the assault on Cerro del Chiquihuite). Such a ceremony could have remained on a personal level had it not been for the connotation of political identities that were invited.

Beto Tavira, chronicler of “social” events with politicians, listed in Political Animalas an attendee of the party “on the 15th floor of the Mexican Stock Exchange”, to some of the main people summoned: the then occupant of Los Pinos Felipe Calderón Hinojosa (who signed as a witness to the civil act), his wife, Margarita Zavala, María Elena Morera, Francisco Labastida Ochoa, María Elena Morera, Mario Delgado, Pablo Hiriart, Javier Lozano, Josefina Vázquez Mota, Ernesto Cordero, Isabel Miranda and her husband, Enrique Wallace (goo.su/i8eU5).

The previous references are relevant in that they indicate the type of treatment that could have been given to the text of a former presidential legal advisor who in his title reveals, contrary sensuintentionality: with a spirit of revenge and seeking forgiveness or political whitewashing. Scherer Ibarra tries to settle scores with internal adversaries (Jesús Ramírez Cuevas, Alejandro Gertz and Olga Sánchez Cordero, for example) and avoid the insistent accusations that he used the position for, for example, twists that benefited nearby law firms (Hernán Gómez in Betrayal in the Palace) and complicity in corrupt businesses (Viaducto Bicentenario and Aléatica, according to persistent litigation by lawyer Paulo Díez Gargari: goo.su/WdOyS) or Segalmex, this case for which the former presidential advisor has filed at least one complaint against journalists who have documented it punctually.

The exhibition of the alleged dirty intimacies of the 4T governance (even what is related to the case of Sergio Carmona, reputed as king of huachicol and alleged financier of cherry electoral campaigns, later murdered) fuels and serves at the moment internal dissonances of Morenoism, challenges to President Sheinbaum by inherited characters and, above all, a frank attack by the opposition to said 4T by an opposition that is still weak, but eager for arguments that empower it, and the very aggressive Trumpist plan of confusion, divisionism and betrayal in Mexico to annex it de facto to the Trump corollary.
