This Wednesday, February 11, is the deadline for candidates who wish to resign from being part of the presidential formula, as well as from the lists for the Senate, the Chamber of Deputies and the Andean Parliament, according to the Electoral Schedule of the 2026 General Elections (EG 2026), recalled the National Elections Jury (JNE).
Likewise, it is the deadline for political parties to request the withdrawal of their formulas or lists of candidates or any of the applicants that make them up.
These procedures are carried out before the corresponding Special Electoral Juries (JEE). Regarding the resignation, it must be presented by the candidate, personally and in writing, so that the secretary of the aforementioned electoral body can certify his signature, unless the applicant has a digital signature, in which case it can be done virtually.
Regarding the withdrawal of candidates, this is carried out by the political parties through their legal representative. The request addressed to the relevant JEE must be accompanied by documents that prove such decision with respect to due process and in accordance with its statute or internal standard.
What is resolved by the JEE in these cases may be subject to appeal, which will be reviewed, in the last and final instance, by the Plenary Session of the JNE.
