Supreme Court ratifies sentences in National Lottery scandal

Suprema Corte ratifica penas en escándalo de Lotería Nacional

Santo Domingo.– The Second Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) confirmed the sentences imposed on those involved in the fraud of the National Lottery drawby rejecting the appeals filed by the convicted.

The high court ratified the five-year prison sentence against William Lizandro Rosario Ortizconsidering that the sentence handed down by the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal of the National District was duly founded and supported by sufficient evidence.

Likewise, the Supreme Court confirmed the guilt of Eladio Batista Valeriosentenced to three years in prison with conditional suspension of the sentence, under the rules established by the executing judge, warning that the benefit may be revoked in case of non-compliance or recidivism.

The SCJ also ruled that Rosario Ortiz and Batista Valerio pay the criminal costs of the process.
