Cicpc agents arrested priest Jesús Gabriel Candelario Barreno in the state of Sucre, who allegedly sexually abused a 12-year-old altar girl, according to judicial reports.
The events occurred two years ago in the María Auxiliadora parish, Punto Fijo where Candelario was parish priest, but they were detected on this occasion because a teacher of the victim collected her testimony and reported it to the authorities.
In that sense, Cicpc agents captured the priest on January 26 when the man intended to leave Venezuela.
After his capture, the priest was charged by representatives of the Public Ministry during a telematic hearing held by the 4th Control Court of Falcón, from where they decreed deprivation of liberty for aggravated sexual abuse with a vulnerable victim in a continuous degree.
The Council on the Rights of Children and Adolescents issued a measure to protect the victim, a source said.
