«I announce with a saddened heart that I have decreed three days of official mourning in our state of Amazonas, from tomorrow, Tuesday, February 10, to Thursday, February 12, in honor of the memory of Javier Areinamo and Lucia Reina González. This time is so that, as a large family, we can stop to remember them, accompany their loved ones with respect and honor the brief but valuable light of their young lives. “It is what they deserve from an entire people that today mourns them with deep pain.”
Likewise, Rodríguez on his Facebook account thanked the rescue teams and volunteers who persist in the efforts to locate Salomé Castaño, who is still missing.
«I want to thank every person who continues to work in the search for Salomé Castaño. To you, who with your hands, your courage and your dedicated soul have given everything in these days of anguish. There are no words to pay for such dedication,” said the governor, highlighting that this work represents a “ray of hope” for the Amazonian people.

The incident occurred when the group of teenagers were playing volleyball in an unsupervised area of the spa. According to witnesses, the ball fell into the river and was carried away by the current. In the attempt to recover it, one of the young women was sucked into a natural whirlpool. Her companions tried to help her, but the force of the water overwhelmed them. Testimonies highlight the heroic act of Javier, who managed to save one of the girls before disappearing upon re-entering to rescue the other two.
