Cruz Azul, a wandering team
Despite belonging to the cooperative Cruz Azul cement planthe club has been without its own stadium for decadessince he left his native Hidalgo, and has passed through different venues throughout its recent history.
During the 1970s and 1980s, Cruz Azul played at the Azteca Stadiumwhere he shared a home with América and experienced one of his most successful periods, winning several league titles. In the 1990s it moved to the then Ciudad de los Deportes Stadium, known as Blue Stadiumwhere he remained for years, although without achieving championships.
In 2018 he returned to the Azteca Stadium and in 2021 he broke a 23-year drought without a title by being crowned league champion. However, the closure of the property for its remodeling ahead of the 2026 World Cup forced the club to look for a new headquarters.
After a brief period back in Sports City Stadiumsharing again with América, the team moved in 2025 to University Olympic Stadiumhome of the Pumas, where they won the Concachampions. However, differences with the Ciudad Universitaria board prevented the agreement from continuing.
Given this scenario, and at the last minute, it was reported that Cruz Azul will compete in the first half of 2026 in the Cuauhtémoc Stadiumin Puebla.
Until now, the directive of The Machine continues analyzing options to complete the construction of its own new stadium, with the aim of leaving behind its status as a traveling team and having a property in line with its history, being one of the four greats of Mexican soccer.
