A request for a review made by deputy Renildo Calheiros (PCdoB-PE) interrupted the analysis of the free trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union by the National Congress this Tuesday (10).
With the request, the meeting of the Brazilian Representation in the Mercosur Parliament (Parlasul) was suspended and should be resumed on February 24, to vote on the report read by the president of the collegiate, deputy Arlindo Chinaglia (PT-SP).
In the report, Chinaglia highlighted that the agreement creates a broad free trade area between the blockswith a gradual reduction in tariffs and preservation of sectors considered sensitive, in addition to providing safeguards and dispute resolution mechanisms.

The president of the Foreign Relations Commission and vice-president of the Representation, senator Nelsinho Trad (PSD-MS), highlighted the economic impacts of the agreement and the proposal’s path in Congress.
According to him, the The expectation is to conclude the vote on the report shortly after the return from Carnival and then send the text to the Plenary of the Chamber of Deputies and, subsequently, to the Senate.
