Expo Ovina was successfully developed among the best in the country
The good number of specimens and the excellent genetic level make the Agricultural Society’s sample position itself as one of the best in the country.
This year, other attractions were added, such as a competition for wool craftswomen, another for pelegos, and one for cabañero children.
“We are very happy, even though at the beginning we had been worried about everything that is happening in the sheep sector, with registrations that were quite slow, but in the last two days they multiplied and we managed to exceed 230 animals” highlighted the President of Agriculture.
“Talking with leaders of the Rural Association they told us about other places where 80 animals were registered, in places that had huge exhibitions in other years. Fortunately in Cerro Largo they continue to work a lot with sheep” he remarked Dr. Fabián Gularte.
In Melo the best cabins from all over the country were present, ranking the level of the sample and allowing it to maintain the prestige it has achieved in more than 100 years.
PARTICIPATION OF MANY YOUNG PEOPLE
An aspect that caught the attention of THE DIARY PROFESSIONAL was the high presence of very young people, both as managers of the breeding establishments and as workers. “This is carried in the blood and therefore it is transmitted from generation to generation. The President of the organizing institution said he was satisfied with the movement that was generated last weekend at the Conventos location. “The Sheep Expo is this” he emphasized. “Just people having a good time, meeting friends. People come here from all over the country, it’s a meeting place. Many producers and the general public come too, but a very specific audience. VARIOUS COMPETITIONS
“The wool artisans came from all over the country” Dr. Gularte highlighted. “They did it by looking for a space, the prizes and interacting with each other as well” he added.
Wool workers from 6 departments of the country were present at the fairgrounds, marking the success of the innovative proposal that the Agricultural Society incorporated this year. “People came from Florida, Paso de los Toros and Lavalleja, artisans who came to compete with their wool garments” reported.

TRIBUTE TO PAYSSE TURENA
On Sunday around noon, a well-deserved recognition was made to the prestigious, recently deceased cabañero.
“We named the Cerro Largo Agricultural Society’s Sheep Track after him” confirmed the President of the Producers Guild. “He started here and later he was President of the ARU and the Uruguayan Wool Secretariat to finish his union activity in Agriculture, which is why he is a very important part of our institution” held.
