The first games of Brazilian Cup dates and times were defined this Monday (9) by the CBF. The initial phase, from February 17th to 19th, will bring together 28 of the 126 participating clubs. The opening match will be between Sampaio Corrêa-RJ and Desportiva Ferroviária-ES, on February 17th (a Tuesday), at 8pm (Brasília time), in Saquarema.
Starting this year, the Copa do Brasil will distribute two places for the Copa Libertadores (champion and runner-up). From the first to the fourth phase, the competition will feature single games. If there is a draw within 90 minutes of the match, classification will take place via penalty shootout. The remaining four phases will have round-trip matches. For the first time, the Copa do Brasil title decision will take place in a single match, scheduled for December 6th.
The first phase of the tournament brings together the clubs with the lowest scores in the National Club Ranking (RNC), organized by the CBF. Whoever advances will join 74 other teams in the second stage, totaling 88 teams. The third stage will bring together the 44 classified in the previous stage and also the champions of Copa Verde (Paysandu), Copa Nordeste (runner-up Confiança inherited the place from Bahia, winner), Série C (Ponte Preta) and Série D. The fourth phase will only feature the 24 classified in the previous stage.
