MOP details investments that exceed $460 million in road projects to boost tourism

More than 460 million dollars in investment will be used for road improvements in the country’s tourist places.

According to the head of the Ministry of Public Works, Rafael Sabonge, there are 12 road projects that will be developed as part of the Tourism Cabinet and said that the objective is to develop infrastructure that helps boost tourism in the country in provinces such as Chiriquí, Colón, Bocas del Toro, Cocle, Veraguas, Los Santos and Panama.

During the Tourist Office held today in the township of Santa Catalina, Soná district, in Veraguas, Sabonge said that in this province the study, design, construction and financing of the San José Calidonia- Platanares- Pixvae road, which consists of 44.62 kilometers, is underway. and implies an investment of B/. 39.9 million.

In addition to the rehabilitation of the El Tigre de los Amarillos-Hicaco-Santa Catalina highway and the Ciclovía, El Estero beach section. Its length is 18.0 kilometers with an investment of B/10.6 million.

For the province of Colón, he explained that they are carrying out the study, design, construction and financing of the Quebrada Ancha- María Chiquita highway, and that it is about to be awarded. He stressed that this work consists of an investment of B /. 87 million. In the execution stage is the rehabilitation of the road to Fort San Lorenzo, whose investment reaches B/ 9.2 million.

As for the province of Bocas del Toro, the project for the rehabilitation and financing of the La Feria-Playa Paunch road, the Big Greek-Boca de Drago road and internal streets in Isla Colón was awarded, with an investment of B/. 81.9 million. As well as the construction and financing of the Paunch Beach-Bluff Beach-Boca del Drago Coastal Beltway (Phase B), which is expected to be awarded. The investment for this project is B/. 45.6 million.

Sabonge gave details of other road works for the province of Los Santos, the Guna Yala region, Coclé, Chiriquí and Panama.

During the Tourism Cabinet, the head of the Tourism portfolio, Iván Eskildsen, highlighted the importance of strengthening tourism in Santa Catalina and assured that with the more than 777 million dollars in projects within this Cabinet, it will be possible to enhance tourism at the national level.
