Exports save the Dominican cement industry

He Dominican cement sector closed 2025 with a total growth of 2.3% in sales volume, the result of a differentiated performance between the domestic market and the export dynamisms, in a context marked by the local slowdown of the construction.

During the period, sales destined for the domestic market registered an increase of only 0.9%, a result that is well below the growth levels observed in previous years, when the industry benefited from a greater boost from construction sector.

In contrast, the exports showed an outstanding performance, growing 9.2%, due to the investments made by companies to expand their installed capacity, according to a press release from the Dominican Association of Cement Producers (Adodem).

These results are closely linked to construction behaviorwhich during 2025 faced a less dynamic environment, according to the union

The data of the Central Bank indicate that, although the sector recorded specific episodes of recovery throughout 2025, the accumulated performance was irregular, after several consecutive months of contraction, closing the year with negative growth of 1.8%.

  • “The performance of the cement sector in 2025 confirms the strength of our industry and its ability to respond efficiently to a more challenging economic environment. The growth in local sales volume clearly reflects the context that construction experienced during the year. Although it is a positive result, it is below the historical levels that traditionally accompany periods of greatest expansion in the sector,” said Jorge David Pérez, president of Adocem.

Pérez also stressed the importance of continuing to promote conditions that favor the development of the construction as a key driver of economic growth and job creation.

“The construction It is one of the fundamental pillars of national development. Therefore, it is essential promote public policies and conditions that stimulate investment in infrastructure, housing and productive projects, elements that directly affect the competitiveness and well-being of the country,” he declared.
