Ipsos: President Jerí’s disapproval increased from 43% to 61% in a single month

Ipsos: President Jerí's disapproval increased from 43% to 61% in a single month

The president is experiencing the worst moment of his administration. José Jerí pays dearly for his affairs with Chinese businessmen and lucky palace visitors and begins to see the popularity that was once his crown crumble. The trust that Peruvians had in their government three months ago seems to be crumbling.

The latest Ipsos survey conducted for Peru21 reveals that citizens are beginning to turn their backs on this government. Jerí’s approval has dropped sharply to 30%: 13 percentage points less compared to January (43%). In the south support falls to 21%.

Scandals take their toll. Rejection of the president’s management now reaches 61%, marking a drastic growth of 18 percentage points in the last 30 days.

The lack of presidential transparency has also affected his closest surroundings. The performance of Premier Ernesto Álvarez is rejected by 64% of Peruvians. A month ago his disapproval reached 55%.

Accompanying his hooded president to dinner at a restaurant in San Borja, his complicity in this unregistered outing, has hit the image of the Minister of the Interior, Vicente Tiburcio, who now reaches 64% of citizen disapproval, seven percentage points more than the previous month.

Neither the president nor the minister have furthermore complied with reducing the crime figures in the country or delivering to Peruvians the oft-promised National Security Plan.

Ipsos also asked its interviewees to choose a word that reflects how they feel about their president. The majority of Peruvians opted for the word Nada, which stands out in the cloud of tags presented in the table below. Disappointment, good, corrupt and incapable also stand out in this cloud of words about the president.

Peruvians also evaluated the management of the president of Congress, Fernando Rospigliosi. Although his approval rose from 16% to 19%, rejection of his work as head of Parliament increased by five percentage points, going from 62% to 67%.
