Marco Rubio will visit Peru to celebrate the bicentennial of bilateral relations with the United States

He United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubiowill visit Peru during 2026 as a sign of strengthening relations between both nations. This was confirmed by the US ambassador to Peru, Bernie Navarrowho has already been established in the country since January.

This morning the event took place Peru by Bikein Washington Park. The ceremony was attended by the ambassador Bernie Navarresewho confirmed in statements to Canal N that the Secretary of State will arrive in the country this year.

The visit is part of the commemoration of 200 years of bilateral relationship between Peru and the United States. Navarro highlighted the closeness between both nations. “We are family,” he highlighted, mentioning that his wife is of Peruvian nationality. “The United States and Peru are family too,” he said.

The ambassador pointed out that the goal of this type of meeting is to “strengthen our relations,” ties that would be consolidated as part of the bilateral agenda of both countries.

Beginning of diplomatic management

On January 29, Bernie Navarro officially began his diplomatic mission in Peru after being declared United States ambassador to the country. During the ceremony, Navarro highlighted that his arrival is an unusual event in recent years and that it reflects the importance that Donald Trump’s government gives to the American presence in national territory.

“Peru is very important. Very rarely has a North American president appointed a political ambassador to Peru. My appointment by President Trump reflects the importance of the relationship with Peru. Bilateral work is a priority,” he stated.

This 2026 will commemorate 200 years of diplomatic relations between Peru and the United States, whose official anniversary will be celebrated on May 2, consolidating a relationship forged over two centuries.

The exchanges between both nations are reflected in emblematic spaces of cities. In the Peruvian case, Plaza Washington and Kennedy Park in Lima; while in the United States there is Yma Sumac Street in Los Angeles and Perú Boulevard in New Jersey.
