Social movements in Colombia and Venezuela demand the release of Maduro

In an act of deep symbolic and political charge, more than 100 social movements from Colombia and Venezuela gathered in the Plaza La Confraternidad in San Antonio del Táchira to stage the “Abrazotón”, a binational mobilization that demanded the immediate release of President Nicolás Maduro and Representative Cilia Flores.

Under the motto “Congress of the People: One hug, one future”, cultists, graffiti artists, dancers and the Popular Power of both nations transformed the border area into an epicenter of resistance. The governor of Táchira, Freddy Bernal, described the meeting as an example of peaceful coexistence before the world.

”Our president Nicolás Maduro and deputy Cilia Flores are prisoners of war after the bombings carried out by the United States against Venezuela on January 3,” denounced Bernal a few meters from the Simón Bolívar International Bridge.

The regional leader stressed that, despite the imperialist aggression, the Bolivarian Government remains firm under the leadership of Delcy Rodríguez.

Binational roadmap

During the day, the spokespersons of the social organizations read the conclusions of the Congress, where Latin American unity was ratified in the face of the violation of International Law and national sovereignty.

Among the agreements reached are carrying out a national mobilization. For them, there will be a call for a large workers’ march on May 1 against imperialism. International campaign to reinforce agitation actions for the freedom of the presidential couple and border peace, which consolidates a territory free of violence and with full human mobility.

Bernal, accompanied by deputies from the regional parliament, reiterated that the union between Táchira and Norte de Santander is the guarantee of a victorious end to the Revolution.
