He came accompanied by the directors of Works, engineer Gonzalo Santos; of Architecture, Manuel Odriozola; and Public Relations and Press, Jorge Torres.
Based on the five-year budget of the Municipality of Colonia and the departmental decentralization policy, during the meeting, Rodríguez made a series of announcements linked to infrastructure works, public spaces, cultural policies, training in trades and health, within the framework of the five-year budget of the Municipality of Colonia and the resources it receives from the national government.
Pool enclosure and heating
Rodríguez confirmed that the project to “air-condition and close the pool” at the Nueva Palmira Sports Plaza is included in the five-year budget. This is “a commitment assumed by the departmental government” and the project is already underway. The original work, with an investment of close to 36 million pesos, presents an advance of approximately 80%, to which around two million additional pesos will be added for adjustments and technical improvements.
Rodríguez especially valued the social and health impact of the pool, highlighting its recreational and therapeutic use, especially for older adults and people who require rehabilitation.
More bead counts
In terms of road infrastructure, he announced that in a period of approximately ten days the ditch curb work will begin in the city, in addition to the continuity of repairs on concrete streets and the application of double surface treatment on other arteries. Likewise, he announced that a “tender for asphalt” will be launched, ensuring that the streets intervened with curb curbs will later have definitive pavement.
All works “are carried out in permanent coordination with the Municipality of Nueva Palmira, respecting the criteria of decentralization and the role of local governments in decision-making.”
Improvement of places
Another important axis was the strengthening of public spaces, including neighborhood squares and small squares, where interventions are planned together with the Directorate of Public Walks. In this framework, Rodríguez announced that “actions will be evaluated in Plaza Artigas and in other parts of the city.”
Culture
In the cultural area, the Mayor highlighted the strong commitment that the Municipality has been making and celebrated the operation of the new premises of the Nueva Palmira House of Culture, pointing out that “the investment made has allowed for a notable improvement in cultural activity” in the city.
The School of Heritage Arts and Crafts will soon be opened in Carmelo, with open calls for young people and adults from Nueva Palmira, who will be able to access “transportation scholarships.” The first trade that will be taught will be sanitary plumbing, and it is not ruled out that in the future training may be implemented directly in Nueva Palmira. Rodríguez stressed the importance of trades as generators of employment and labor dignity.
Parties
During the interview with the local media, the Mayor also referred to the intense agenda of events and festivities, highlighting the positive impact they have on the local economy, generating work for artists, technicians, fairground vendors, artisans and gastronomic entrepreneurs.
