The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru, Hugo de Zelaresponded through the official account of the Foreign Ministry in X to a message from the Venezuelan opponent Maria Corina Machadoin which she thanked Peruvian support for the fight for democracy in her country.
Machado Parisca published a message on that social network remembering the official meeting he held with the chancellor on February 5 in Washington DC, where both talked about the Venezuelan political crisis and the search for a return to the constitutional order.
In her writing, the opposition leader expressed her excitement about the meeting and conveyed her gratitude “for the support that the Peruvian people and their government have given us in our fight for democracy and freedom.”
In addition, he highlighted the welcome received by Venezuelan citizens who came to Peru in search of refuge and opportunities, and noted that they are “determined to advance as soon as possible in a real transition to democracy” so that Venezuelans can return to their country and rebuild their nation. “Very soon we will have the honor of receiving him in Venezuela!” Machado concluded in his message.
In response, the head of Peruvian diplomacy thanked Machado for his words and reaffirmed the “fraternal support” of the Government of Peru for the citizens of Venezuela to recover their democracy.
Through the official account of the Foreign Ministry, De Zela stated that it was an honor to share the meeting and highlighted Peru’s commitment to freedom, democracy, human rights and the well-being of the Venezuelan people.
“In this decisive stage, you can count on our fraternal support so that the citizens of Venezuela recover their democracy and full development in freedom and regain control of their future,” he said.
