The general director of Public Contracts, Carlos Pimentelrevealed this Thursday that a proposal that will limit the amount of commercial activities in which the state suppliers Dominican.
Pimentel warned that companies that sell to public institutions will only have in the supplier registration the five commercial activities that have been identified before the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII).
“We cannot continue to have suppliers who are dedicated to everything. We cannot continue to have suppliers who have the complete catalog: they repair airplanes, sell bread, cure tight chest, they do everything. That it just can’t be“, he stated.
The official, who spoke during a breakfast organized by the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD), reported that they already have a proposal to discuss it, although he indicated that the directors of the state they agree with that technical proposal.
“That (the proposal) will be in the regulations of the supplier registration who goes to consultation because, generally, those who dedicate themselves to everything do not dedicate themselves to anything,” he declared.
New law
The meeting of the AIRD was dedicated to the analysis of the scope, opportunities and challenges posed by the new Law 47-25 of Public Contracts from the perspective of industrial sector.

During his presentation, the head of Public Procurement highlighted the benefits of the new rule, including the strengthening of national production through an increase in the participation of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in tenders, going from 20% in the previous law to 30% in the current one.
Likewise, he highlighted the increase from 5% to 10% in the participation of led MSMEs by women.
The president of the industrial union, Julio Virgilio Brachestated that the new regulations constitutes a milestone in the modernization process of the Dominican State, by redefining the relationship between the public sector and its suppliers and strengthening public procurement as an instrument of development, efficiency and value creation for society.
