There are plenty of reasons for Havana to celebrate its 502nd anniversary

An extensive program of activities for the 502nd anniversary of Havana, to be celebrated on November 16, was announced at a press conference at the headquarters of the Government of the city by representatives of the Union of Young Communists (UJC), the student organizations and the Culture and Sports directorates of the capital.

Ana Rosa Granda Esteban, first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the UJC, referred to various existing motivations for the celebrations that will last until January 1st, the anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution.

He highlighted the effort and discipline of the people in the successful confrontation with COVID-19, the battles for production, provision of services, the contribution of scientists and the deployment of resuscitation actions in 65 neighborhoods, towards which the events will also be directed. .

The program begins on November 8, with tours of an electrobus, which will travel through the municipalities with electronic music and dancers, a vehicle that will make stops in different areas.

The Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) prepares the project “El Madrigazo”, which will take place at its headquarters in La Madriguera, but will also reach complex communities, on the 12th, 13th and 14th of this month.

On Saturday 13, the event “With everything for the neighborhood” begins in the municipality of East Havana, where youth organizations, their movements and students, will bring recreational games, music and plastic arts activities to the communities, to link to families, through the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution and the Federation of Cuban Women. Then these offers will be extended to the other Havana territories.

Every Saturday, spaces for the new generations will open their doors, such as the Sports City, the House of Culture of the municipality of Plaza de la Revolución, from 3:00 in the afternoon to 7:00 at night. It includes, in the late evening, areas of the boardwalk and La Piragua.

In all these places those who are interested in extreme sports, can interrelate through practices with skates, skateboards and bicycles, places where they will have advice from instructors.

During the last months of the year, the UJC’s tribute to young people who actively participated in the fight against COVID-19 in hospitals, isolation centers, in the fight against cholera, productive jobs and in support of productive work will continue. vulnerable families.

Granda Esteban explained that November 15-20 will be National Defense Week, and the last of those days in universities, students will demonstrate their combat skills with members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces.

As up to now, they will carry out productive work in organoponics and in construction works.

In the main parks of the capital, on weekends, from the morning, the brigades of art instructors and sports teachers will carry out recreational proposals for children and families.

Jorge Luis Pérez Rodríguez, head of the Ideological Department of the provincial UJC, commented that in the project “With everything for the neighborhood”, according to a schedule, together with that organization, students will intervene who will exchange with neighbors and other addresses such as Education, Culture and Sports, to increase the offers in areas with social disadvantages.

Santa Miralis Ricardo Tamayo, provincial director of Culture, designed an extensive program that includes presentations by artistic brigades, the National Circus of Cuba, performing arts centers and representatives of other institutions in the sector, on November 14 in the 65 vulnerable communities .

On the 15th, the dinners traditionally offered in the restaurants awaiting the town’s birthday will be accompanied by local artists and on the 16th the artistic and cultural gala will take place, while that same day, the municipal and provincial bands will take over from the main parks.

He added that the Havana Biennial will meet, in an atypical way, from November to April, with the presence of several countries and numerous virtual events.

During the stage, headquarters of that body will reopen in the municipalities, houses of culture and other institutions repaired in times of pandemic.

From the 5th to the 19th they will develop a Craft Fair and on the next 15th, at 9:00 at night, the lights of the central Galiano street will come on again.

Raúl Reyes Santiesteban, deputy director of the National Sports, Physical Education and Recreation Institute (INDER), explained how this body intervenes to promote recreation for the residents of the capital, and specified that the offers are aimed at families in the neighborhoods through the support of the 73 combined from that branch, from the city.

The Maracuba race stands out, on November 21, in which about 3 000 runners will participate, who already have a complete vaccination scheme, who will have their goal in the Sports City, while foreign participation will be virtual.

From 13 to 21 they will develop the Baseball Tribute Week in all stadiums and combined.

INDER foresees caps between the Under 23 team of that sport with the preselection of Industriales, street plans and recreational festivals, which will be announced in due course by the official press media.
