In the last hours, the premier Ernesto Alvarez and the Minister of Defense, César Díaz, have given auspicious statements about the purchase of fighter aircraft that will allow the renewal of the combat fleet of the Peruvian Air Force (FAP).
Álvarez said that “as for the financing of the planes, this is framed in an effort not only of Defense, but of the PCM and the Foreign Ministry. And supported by the understanding and exercise of understanding of the president (José Jerí) based on the geopolitical changes established by the presidential change in the United States.”
“This government understands perfectly that the circumstances (in relation) to last year have changed substantially. The US now exercises leadership not only regionally, but globally, extremely dynamic and extremely active,” he said.
It is important to remember that during the government of Dina Boluarte, the then general command of the FAP and the Ministry of Defense made great progress in negotiations with the Swedish company SAAB and the Gripen fighter.

The Minister of Defense, César Díaz, also reported that the analysis for the acquisition of new combat aircraft for the FAP is in an advanced phase and that the result will be communicated soon to the citizens.
He assured that the Comptroller General of the Republic and the Ministry of Economy and Finance participate in the supervision of the technical and economic aspects, with the objective of ensuring that the decision is sustained, transparent and in accordance with the country’s defense needs.
