CECCOM dismantles two clandestine laboratories of adulterated alcohol

CECCOM desmantela dos laboratorios clandestinos de alcohol adulterado

Santo Domingo.- The Specialized Body for Fuel Control and Trade of Goods (CECCOM), in coordination with the Public Ministry and support organizations, simultaneously carried out two operations in the south and east of the country, managing to dismantle and destroy artisanal laboratories dedicated to the manufacture and marketing of adulterated alcoholic beverages, known as clerén or triculí.

The first operation was carried out in the municipality of Quisqueya, San Pedro de Macorís province, and was led by the Operations Directorate together with the Eastern Regional Directorate of CECCOM, with the presence of Judge Ana María Frías, representative of the Public Ministry.

A clandestine laboratory was dismantled at the site where 1,665.6 liters of adulterated alcoholfound in different stages of production and stored in tanks, jugs and other containers. During this intervention, two people were arrested for research purposes.

In parallel, in the Mena Abajo sector, of the Tamayo municipality, province Bahorucomembers of the Intelligence Directorate and the Southern Regional Directorate of CECCOM, together with the National Environmental Protection Service (SENPA), and accompanied by the Environmental Prosecutor of Barahona, Esteban Sánchez, dismantled another artisanal laboratory.

In this second operation, they seized and destroyed more than 3,700 liters of adulterated alcoholstored in seventeen 55-gallon metal tanks, in addition to jugs, plastic containers, equipment and utensils used for the illicit activity. In this action they were three individuals arrested linked to illegal production and distribution.

In total, the authorities managed neutralize more than 5,365 liters of adulterated cleren and triculíhighly dangerous for human health, and arrest five people for research purposes.

These facts constitute a violation of the General Health Law 42-01 already Law 17-19 on Eradication of Illicit Trade, Smuggling and Counterfeiting of Regulated Productsreaffirms the commitment of CECCOM and the Ministry of Defense in the fight against illicit trade and the protection of the health of the population.

“With these simultaneous actions, CECCOM strengthens the national strategy to eradicate illicit trade and guarantees the health security of citizens,” said the General Directorate of the organization.
