A tanker truck caught fire this morning at kilometer 413 of the North Pan-American Highway, near the district of Samanco, province of Santa, Ancash region. The incident generated panic among residents and drivers passing through the area.
According to information provided by the RPP media and corroborated by police sources, the affected vehicle has a BFP-854 license plate and belongs to the company Servosa Combustibles. The driver of the unit was identified as Helton Estevenn Aponte Toribio at the time of the incident.
Fire originated in the cabin of the vehicle
The fire started in the cabin of the tanker for reasons that have not yet been determined. The flames caused great concern among neighbors and motorists, who feared that the fire would reach the fuel tank and cause a large explosion.
Firefighters from the Nueva Chimbote district quickly arrived at the scene of the incident, who with the support of National Police agents managed to control the fire and avoid major consequences, as confirmed by our journalist in Áncash.
Representatives of the National Police reported that the incident left no people injured or fatalities, although the truck was severely damaged. The vehicle was practically destroyed by the flames.
Ongoing investigation
The authorities have initiated the corresponding investigations to determine the exact causes of the incident. Among the preliminary hypotheses is a possible mechanical failure in the vehicle system, although this must be confirmed through investigations that continue to be developed.
The incident temporarily paralyzed traffic on that stretch of the Panamericana Norte, one of the country’s main communication routes, until the authorities managed to clear the area and restore normal vehicular circulation.
