Today, the president inaugurated the first stage of the Rosario Castellanos National University, San Luis Potosí campus. Governor Ricardo Gallardo was present at the event; the Secretary of Education, Mario Delgado, and the person in charge of these schools, the Secretary of Sciences, Humanities, Technology and Innovation, Rosaura Ruiz.
“I’m going to give you news that you’re going to like,” Sheinbaum told those in attendance. He reminded them that yesterday the delivery of this scholarship to Michoacán students at that university was announced as part of the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice, since, unlike high school students, university students do not receive a scholarship.
“Today I give the news that all students at the Rosario Castellanos National University will have the Gertrudis Bocanegra scholarship,” he indicated. The initiative seeks to support students for transportation “and some small expenses they have,” said the president.
With the construction of new institutions, Sheinbaum seeks to expand spaces in higher education institutions, expand the coverage of this educational level and compensate for the gap in educational infrastructure.
He assured that, between 1983 and 2018, investment in educational infrastructure stopped, so there is less supply than demand in universities. To overcome this deficit, he assured, admission exams were administered to young people.
“Why are there not enough schools in Mexico? Why are there a need for more high schools and universities? Because for a long time it was considered that education was not a right,” he declared.
“They told the students: ‘It’s your fault if you don’t pass the admission exam.’ Well, it’s false, what happened is that they didn’t want to build more universities,” he added.
How much is the Rosario Castellanos scholarship for university students?
This financial support for transportation, which high school students already receive, consists of the delivery of 1,900 pesos every two months, during the 10 months of the school year (it does not include July and August since they are vacations).
The beneficiaries will now be students up to 29 years old at that higher education institution and, according to the rules, registration is necessary to access that support.
Those who receive it will enjoy it for a maximum of 45 months and only in the case of medical students for up to 55 months.
