The president of the National Assembly, deputy Jorge Rodríguez, approached zone 7 of Boleíta to talk with the relatives of some of the detainees who are there.
Rodríguez was accompanied by the deputy and president of the Special Commission to Promote Public Consultation of the Project Amnesty LawJorge Arreaza and representative Grecia Colmenares, second vice president of the national parliament, where she reaffirmed that the spirit of the Amnesty Law, recently approved unanimously in the first discussion, seeks to establish bridges of justice and humanity.
Rodríguez was received by family members, visibly affected, and listened to each of them, who told him about some medical cases that some detainees present. Given this, the president of the Assembly ordered the director of the office of the National Assembly, who accompanied him, to personally take charge of them.
During the tour, the head of Parliament emphasized that the situation the country is going through requires a higher ethical level to overcome the wounds of the past.
Rodríguez stated that each case will be addressed immediately and requested a list of all the people who are detained in Boleíta 7. To a woman who came up to hug him, the parliamentarian said: “I come to tell you what we are doing; We already approved (in the first discussion) the Amnesty law and on Tuesday we must give it a second discussion and it will be definitively approved. Once this law is approved, everyone leaves that same day” and then added: “We are going to repair all the mistakes that have been made.”
»Forgiveness does not generate any type of reservation. In these complex times that we live in, we must be fair, ask for forgiveness and also forgive,” said Rodríguez, emphasizing that this act is the fundamental basis for the country’s advancement. He insisted that forgiveness is not a sign of weakness, but rather an indispensable strength for democratic coexistence.
The presence of the leadership of the National Assembly in this detention center is part of the strategy of “street parliamentarism” instructed for the debate of the Amnesty Law.
