The presidential candidate of Primero la Gente, Marisol Pérez Tello, announced that the National Executive Committee (CEN) of the party is evaluating the expulsion of Miguel del Castillo after he would have directed more than S/. 464 thousand from the electoral strip to its former channel Nativa Televisión. In this context, del Castillo resigned his candidacy for the Chamber of Deputies for Metropolitan Lima after questions about the alleged misuse of 30% of the resources assigned to the party. The case became known after journalistic reports and statements by the party leadership that point to a conflict of interest.
However, later in an interview for La Contra, del Castillo denied having directed funds from the electoral fringe to his former channel and assured that his resignation also responded to his intention to run for mayor of Lima. In addition, he stated that the allocation of the strip was the responsibility of the party’s communications secretary, Miguel Villalva.
For his part, Carlos Álvarez, current presidential candidate for the Country for All party, spoke out forcefully regarding the recent scandal. According to La Contra, Álvarez’s party would also have invested in Nativa. More precisely, it would have directed S/. 700 thousand of the resources to the media linked to Miguel del Castillo. Álvarez has said that he never participated in the selection of media for the strip. He even left open the possibility of renouncing his candidacy if those responsible are not identified and punished. Susana Vital, representative of the ONPE, said that “it is an internal issue of the political organization.”
