Santo Domingo. – Less than 24 hours after the dismissal of the director of the Salvador B Hospital. GautierArmando José Holguín Núñez, the director of the National Health Service (SNS), Julio Landrón, swore in Mingkingüeis Maarlem Castillo as the new director of the emblematic hospital center.
Simultaneously, Landrón ordered the change of personnel in charge of hospital security and urged the new director to manage services with efficiency and responsibility, ensuring timely and quality care for patients.
The head of the SNS also announced the intervention of the hospital, which has more than 70 years of service to the population, and indicated that a significant investment will be made this year.
“The resources are available, so work would begin in the coming months after the tender,” Landrón stated.
The dismissal of Holguín Núñez occurred after a surprise visit by the head of the SNS, during which he confirmed irregularities in the emergency room.
According to Landrón, patients remained detained in the emergency area despite there being beds available, including intensive care beds. In addition, he recalled that patients must be seen within a period of two to three hours to determine their admission or medical discharge.

Dr. Mingkingüeis Maarlem Castillo is a graduate of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) and has a postgraduate degree in orthopedics and traumatology from the Salvador B. Gautier Hospital. He has received training in pelvis and acetabulum surgery at the Dr. Victorio de la Fuente Narváez Traumatology Hospital, in Mexico, and has a subspecialty in spine surgery, in addition to various diplomas and academic training.
Since 2024, he has served as head of the orthopedics and traumatology service at the Gautier Hospital and is an associate professor of orthopedics and traumatology at the UASD. His previous positions include the presidency of the spine surgery chapter of the Dominican Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (2019-2021) and the coordination of the orthopedics and traumatology management of the Dr. Ney Arias Lora Traumatological Hospital (2016-2019).
Maarlem is an active member of the Dominican Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology, the Dominican Academy of Medicine and was a founding member of the Dominican Society of Spine Surgery.
