A large police and military contingent has been intervening since the early hours of this Friday in the Cuba neighborhood, in Arroyo Hondo, as part of the second phase of evictions to give way to thejobs of expansion of República de Colombia avenueone of the most congested roads in the National District.
Since last December, brigades from the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) have been working on the outskirts of the sector on the expansion of the aforementioned avenue, a work that currently shows a high level of progress.

Since the end of last year, dozens of homes in the sector were marked and notified for the purposes of expropriationas part of the road infrastructure project. In November, authorities carried out a first eviction of about 20 familieswhose land will be used for the expansion of the road.
After this intervention, several of the evicted residents expressed their dissatisfaction with the compensation amounts offered by the State. In response, the Ministry of Public Works assured that it held more than six months of negotiations with the occupiers, but he stated that these demanded “economic aspirations much higher” than the amounts previously paid in the area.
The expansion of República de Colombia Avenue, which is being carried out with resources from the renegotiation of the contract with Aerodom, is part of a strategic plan of the Government to improve mobility urban and reduce traffic congestion in the north of the National District.
