Those killed were part of the Structured Organized Crime Group founded by Gilberth Abraham Palencia Toledo (El Gilberth), which was also killed on December 22 in Matas Altas, another rural sector of the Pedro Zaraza municipality, Guárico. That day they also killed three other colleagues from El Gilbert after carrying out a military procedure at the end of which they seized three rifles (one AK47 and two FAL); 92 ammunition; 13 magazines of different calibers; four motorcycles; two radio transmitters and nine cell phones.
Both procedures are part of Operation Zaraza, one of the nine plans that the Bolivarian National Armed Forces keep active to neutralize criminal groups, according to the explanation given on several occasions by Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López.
