MIAMI, United States. – The United States Government announced this Thursday another 6 million dollars in “direct assistance” for the Cuban population, which —according to Washington— will be distributed through a channel designed to reduce the risk of interference or diversion by the Cuban State.
The statement signed by a State Department spokesperson maintains that the money is added to previous aid and that it will be supported by “the alliance” recently announced with the Catholic Church and Caritas. Within this framework, assistance will be delivered “through the same channel as the first 3 million,” through prepackaged products transported from Miami and delivered by representatives of local parishes.
Washington affirms that the method “has proven to be highly effective” in preventing “the failed Cuban regime” from interfering with or diverting aid intended for “the needy population” of the Island. “As with the first tranche of direct foreign assistance, let there be no doubt: the regime should make no effort to interfere with the provision of this life-saving support,” the statement said.
The note adds that the United States will be “vigilant” to “track any diversion or frustration” of its assistance efforts and warns that the regime “will be accountable” to the United States and “to its own people” if it attempts to interfere.
Beyond this new shipment of humanitarian aid, the State Department assures that the United States “is ready” to increase direct support to Cubans and conditions this expansion on “the corrupt regime simply allowing it,” according to the document.
