Rio’s street carnival gains another parade location in the city center with the creation of the Circuito Bira Presidente, on Avenida Chile, between Saturday (14) and Tuesday (17) this month. Named in honor of the founder of the Cacique de Ramos block, the Circuito Bira Presidente highlights the diversity of street carnival, bringing together traditional blocks, cultural collectives, Afro-Brazilian demonstrations and groups that represent different territories of the city.
“Naming Avenida Chile as Circuito Bira Presidente is a way of recognizing the importance of blocks and popular culture in the construction of Rio Carnival. The program brings together traditions, ancestry and different cultural expressions that keep Rio’s identity alive”, said the president of Riotur, Bernardo Fellows.
The tribute to Bira Presidente was made official through a decree from Rio’s city hall, choosing Avenida Chile as it was the route traditionally taken by Cacique de Ramos.
By occupying Avenida Chile with an intense and diverse program, the initiative reinforces the vitality of carnival culture and highlights the city’s role as one of the main hubs for popular festivals in the world, where tradition and innovation go hand in hand.
The concentration will be on Avenida Almirante Barroso and Rua México
