MIAMI, United States. – The Provincial People’s Court of Santiago de Cuba imposed sanctions of perpetual deprivation of liberty on three people for the murder of a motorcyclist ―which occurred on October 1, 2024―, according to a statement from the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Santiago de Cuba.
Although the entity did not mention the name of the victim, after the events it is was identified like Yolandi Rodríguez Valenciano, a 38-year-old man and father of two minor girls.
According to the reconstruction of the case carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office, the three convicts “agreed to steal a motorcycle and sell its parts on the black market.” To execute the plan, they would have met in the vicinity of the Alejandro Urgellés Multipurpose Room, at a point described as “dark and far from the homes.”
The report details that, while one of those involved remained at the scene, two others went out to look for a motorist in another area of the city. “One of them carried out sentry duties at this site, while two others went out to the vicinity of the Plaza de la Revolución Antonio Maceo, in search of a motorcyclist. It was in this way that they contacted the victim and asked him to give them a ride to the place where the third was waiting.”
The statement also indicates that the attack occurred during the journey and that the victim received “around 27” injuries. After the crime, the motorcycle was transported and disassembled for sale. At the trial, the prosecutor requested the maximum sanction and the court accepted it, also imposing accessory sanctions of deprivation of rights.
