The Ministry of Education (Minedu) will allocate S/ 1,860,448 for the maintenance and repair of 22,059 bicycles from the Rutas Solidarias program, as part of the Good Start of the 2026 School Year.
The sector points out that this initiative seeks to guarantee the safe and timely transfer of students from rural areas to their educational institutions, through an efficient and accessible means of transportation.
He reported that bicycles are distributed in 1,397 educational institutions of 20 regional education directorates and 157 local educational management units, located in various regions of the country.
The intervention will improve the mobility conditions of schoolchildren who live in rural areas with limited road connectivity and complex geography, contributing to their permanence in the educational system.
He Minister of Education, Jorge Figueroa Guzmán, He highlighted that the program promotes sustainable school transportation and reduces territorial barriers to access to education.
Likewise, Minedu reported that the budget will cover preventive and corrective maintenance, while actions are coordinated with the private sector and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications to renew the fleet and identify safe school routes.
