In the early hours of Monday, the tranquility of the town of Osma, Caruao parish of La Guaira state, was broken by a violent event that ended two lives. Marisol Castillo, 60, was found dead with multiple stab wounds inside her home. Next to her, who died by hanging, was Oscar Brito, 52, identified by police and neighborhood sources as her partner and alleged aggressor.
According to residents of the area, the events occurred inside the couple’s home, located in the sector known as Ciudad Tablita, a group of modest homes located at the entrance to the town of Osma.
The discovery was made by a brother of the victim, who upon arriving at the house found Marisol lying on the floor and Oscar lifeless. He immediately notified the authorities. Officials from the La Guaira state Police and the National Service of Medicine and Forensic Sciences (Senamecf) went to the site for the rigorous procedures and the removal of the bodies.
An argument that ended in tragedy
Unofficial versions collected from neighbors and acquaintances of the couple suggest that there were strong tensions in the relationship. Brito, described as a farmer and bricklayer, would have reacted violently after discovering messages on Castillo’s phone that showed a relationship or communication with another man.
“She no longer wanted anything to do with him, it seems that he discovered some things, some messages… and at night he stabbed her while she was sleeping,” said a source close to the case who requested anonymity. He added that, according to the information he has, the attack would have occurred while the victim was sleeping, resulting in fatal injuries. “He cut the aorta vein,” he explained.
Other preliminary official sources indicate that, during the attack, there was a fight. Marisol Castillo, in an attempt to defend herself, managed to stab Brito at least once in the stomach. However, he would have surpassed her, stabbing her at least twice in the abdomen and another in the neck, causing her death. Then, using the same knife or another sharp object to cut a rope or similar, Brito would have decided to take his own life by hanging himself.
A second feminicide in the state
Marisol Castillo, a housewife, left two adult children from a previous relationship; a 38-year-old woman who lives in Colombia and a 43-year-old man who lives in Venezuela. He did not have children in common with Oscar Brito.
This crime becomes the second feminicide recorded in the state of La Guaira so far in 2026. The first occurred on January 24 in La Atlántida, where Rossana Hernández was shot to death by her ex-partner, Julio Salazar (46).
The authorities continue with the investigations to determine exactly the sequence of events and the precise reasons that led to this double tragedy. Meanwhile, the community of Osma and Ciudad Tablita remains shocked, facing another violent loss that raises alarms about gender violence in the region.
