Less than a month from entry into the country of 50 ambulancesthe Ministry of Public Health announced the arrival of 25 new fully electric vehicles, which will guarantee safe and sustainable transfers within medical centers, especially in wards and emergency services.
The modern equipment, totally ecological, is inserted in the middle of the worst energy crisis that Cuba has faced in recent years.
Illiovanys Betancourt Plaza, general director of the Calixto García hospital in Havana, he told Cuban television that these units benefit patients who require specialized care and cannot move on their own.
According to the directive, in Calixto there are 21 hospitalization pavilions, in which “it is prudent for people to have transportation, a vehicle that guarantees transportation on a stretcher, when their health condition does not allow them to do so on the streets.”
He added that they are useful for moving patients between technological areas such as X-rays, CT and MRI.
The ambulances have complete equipment for medical procedures, autonomy of 380 km, fast charging systems, long-lasting batteries and smart mobility technology.
Likewise, workshop technicians highlight that electric vehicles require less costs in repairs and maintenance, which makes them a more economical and sustainable option in the long term.
Its design eliminates noise and gas emissions, which improves patient safety and comfort. “This is really going to have an impact, because we as an institution are not going to have to go out to another place to have to add fuel,” Betancourt Plaza stated in the report. Caribbean Channel.
Abel González Palmero, director of Transportation Services of the Ministry of Public Health, assured that the equipment may be sold through contracts to other institutions, once its useful life in the Health system ends.
In mid-January, a batch of 50 ambulances arrived in the country, purchased by the organization with resources from the State budget.
Then, the owner of the Ministry of TransportationEduardo Rodríguez Dávila, through his Facebook profile, assured that the new vehicles meet international standards to provide this type of services, having the basic equipment. However, he pointed out the possibility that other diagnostic and resuscitation devices could be installed.
The arrival of the batch of ambulances in the country continues a project led by the Minsap with the participation of the Ministry of Transportation and MCV Comercial SA in April 2024.
On that date, and within the framework of the II International Transport and Logistics Fair, the parties signed an agreement that began on an experimental basis, in order to establish an alliance in the management of the ambulance service in the country.
As agreed, the emergency vehicles would be driven by MCV Comercial SA drivers, while the Minsap guarantees health personnel in charge of medical services on board.
The first experience materialized in January of last year, when 15 vehicles were incorporated into the emergency service that operates in Havana.
