Santo Domingo. – The Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP), began the training of leaders and presidents of sectionals to act as pollsters In a national study on the health and the working conditions of the Dominican teaching profession.
The training day was organized by the Research and Statistics Secretariat as part of the strategy of Educational Observatory Professor Rafael Santoswhich will execute the curriculum to analyze the situation of teachers throughout the country.
First comprehensive study in 56 years
The president of the ADP, Eduardo Hidalgohighlighted that this research marks a historical milestone for the union, as it is the first study of this nature in its 56 years of existence.
Hidalgo stressed that the National Executive Committee expects the leaders to carry out the field work with professionalism, objectivity and commitment to information quality.
The study, titled «Working and health conditions of teachers in the Dominican Republic»will include a sample of 422 teachers and will be applied by 54 trained interviewers. The selection of the sample was carried out through a probabilistic calculation based on the national teaching enrollment affiliated with the ADP.

He Dr. Gonzalo Basiledirector of the International Health Program of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), explained that the research seeks to identify the main occupational diseases that affect teachers and analyze factors that affect their performance, such as student overloadthe indiscipline and the social valuation of teaching work.
To collect the data, a digital tool will be used that will allow teachers to complete the survey directly.
During the workshop, the Dr. Massiel Méndezfrom the School of Public Health at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, explained the use of the application and the criteria for correctly filling out the questionnaire.
The field work will be carried out during a monthwith interviewers distributed throughout specific geographic areas throughout the country. The results will serve as a basis for formulating proposals aimed at improving working and health conditions of Dominican teachers.
