The president in charge of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguezmet this Monday with the new US charge d’affaires, Laura Dogu, who arrived in Caracas on Saturday to reopen the US diplomatic mission, closed for seven years after the breakdown of relations between both countries.
Through a message published on Telegram, the Minister of Communication of Venezuela, Miguel Ángel Pérez Pirela, detailed that the meeting took place at the Miraflores Palace and shared images of the meeting.
According to the minister, the meeting took place within the framework of the “work agenda between the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the United States of North America,” without offering details about the topics discussed.
For her part, Laura Dogu confirmed the meeting through the X social network and noted that she also held conversations with Jorge Rodríguez, brother of the acting president and head of Parliament.

In her message, the diplomat indicated that she reiterated the three phases of the US plan for Venezuelapresented by the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio: stabilization, economic recovery and reconciliation, and transition.
Dogu’s arrival in Venezuela occurs in the midst of a process of rapprochement between both countries, following the capture of President Nicolás Maduro by US troops during an attack on Caracas on January 3, an event that marked a turn in the bilateral relationship, according to EFE.

Dogu will serve as chargé d’affaires of the Venezuelan Affairs Unit and will work with public and private sector actors, as well as civil society, to promote the US Government’s three-phase plan, a senior State Department official explained to cnn.
That same official indicated that the diplomat will lead a US diplomatic presence in Venezuela “very quickly”in line with what Marco Rubio expressed during a Senate hearing.
In this context, the Government in charge of Rodríguez announced on January 9 the beginning of an “exploratory process of a diplomatic nature” with the United States.
According to EFEthe objective is the reestablishment of diplomatic missions in both countries and addressing the consequences of what Caracas considers the “kidnapping” of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
New diplomatic representative
On the same day, Venezuela appointed former Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia as the new diplomatic representative of the South American nation to the United States. reported also EFE.
The Foreign Minister of Venezuela, Yván Gil, indicated, in statements to the state channel Venezuelan Television (VTV), that with the appointment of Plasencia a stage of “exhaustive review” of all the “ways of cooperation” that both nations will be developing “in the coming months” is entered.
