The secretary general of Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Johnny Pujolshe remembered that a political organization with more than five decades of existence and twenty years of experience in the exercise of government It cannot renounce its reason for being or become a simple auxiliary of another political force.
Pujols maintained that the PLD has the obligation to have its own agenda, a defined purpose and a programmatic vision that consolidate it as an option in the face of the reality that the Dominican Republic is experiencing.
“A party like the PLD cannot aim to become a companion to another organization; must have his own presidential candidate“, he emphasized, considering that this position is, in addition, healthy for democracy and the party system.
The PLD leader explained that the main function of political parties is present a clear government proposal to the countrywhich is why the PLD will attend the next elections with a duly identified presidential candidatearound which the organization can unite and offer an alternative in the middle of the hopelessness and the setback perceived by citizens.
In that sense, stressed that the entire opposition spectrum must focus on exercise a firm, responsible and coherent opposition.
“A party has to have a sense of public utilityand that implies that its leadership and militancy maintain a proactive attitude, but also critical. When in opposition, the criticism is an obligation”, he noted.
The general secretary of the PLD stated that the purple party has not failed in its opposition role and called on the entire organization to focus on the fundamental task of approaching society and assume, with responsibility, the objective of govern again to transform the lives of Dominicans.
