On another day of optimism, The Brazilian stock market once again broke a record and approached the unprecedented mark of 186 thousand points. The dollar had a small decline and closed practically stable.
The Ibovespa index, from B3, closed this Tuesday (3) at 185,674 points, an increase of 1.58%. The indicator was supported by shares of mining companies and with the confirmation that the Central Bank (BC) intends to cut interest rates, published in minutes of the last meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (Copom).
The foreign exchange market had a day of more fluctuations. After a significant drop in the morning, the commercial dollar closed the day sold at R$5.25, with a decline of just 0.15%. The US currency falls 4.38% in 2026.
At the low of the day, around 11:30 am, the price reached R$5.20, but reduced the rate of decline during the afternoon amid reduced optimism in the external market and speculation about the future directors of the Central Bank (BC).
In a radio interview this Tuesday morning, the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, stated that he sent to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva the nomination of economist Guilherme Mello for the BC’s Economic Policy Directorate and professor Tiago Cavalcanti, from Fundação Getulio Vargas, for the Financial System Organization Directorate.
Secretary of Economic Policy at the Ministry of Finance since 2023, Mello faces resistance from the financial market due to positions considered heterodox. The nominations for the BC are under analysis by Lula, who has not yet defined the names.
