Investigations to determine the origin of the alleged poisoning that affected eight students of the Republic of Panama Educational Complex in the state of La Guaira They continue in development, while regional authorities carried out an environmental sanitation operation in the campus facilities as a preventive measure.
The director of the institution, Eduardo Díaz, reported that the cleaning and disinfection day was carried out this Tuesday with the participation of the entity’s Fire Department, in coordination with regional authorities, as part of the actions aimed at guaranteeing safe conditions for the return of school activities.
“Today an environmental sanitation day was held where firefighters from the state of La Guaira specifically participated, by order of our governor Alejandro Terán and our sole authority, Dr. Daniel González,” Díaz said.
The work forced the temporary suspension of academic activities, a measure that adds to the expertise carried out on Friday by officials of the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigation Corps (Cicpc), who carried out technical inspections in the patio area where the event was recorded.
According to the director, the specialists took samples in common spaces on campus, in addition to interviewing witnesses and reviewing clothing of the affected students, with the aim of determining if the incident was related to the presence of any substance in the environment.
Although the causes of the event have not yet been officially confirmed, the hypothesis persists among representatives and members of the educational community that the adolescents may have inhaled some agent during recreational activities carried out in intercourse games.
Students in recovery
In relation to the health status of the eight students who presented symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, disorientation and respiratory difficulty, Díaz assured that all of them are evolving favorably in their homes after having received timely medical attention.
The manager also confirmed that there have been no new hospital admissions linked to the case and estimated that the young people could return to their academic activities starting in the middle of the week, as long as they continue to present satisfactory progress.
Toxicology results pending
The educational and health authorities are awaiting the results of the analyzes carried out by the Cicpc, which will clarify the causes of the event. According to Díaz, the technical report could be available in approximately 20 days.
“We are waiting for that test, which supposedly takes 20 days to make those results known and for us to know the origin that caused all this,” he explained.
While the investigations progress, the campus plans to resume its academic activities this Wednesday, after completing the disinfection work and verification of the sanitary conditions of the educational facility.
The director reiterated the authorities’ commitment to guarantee security within the institution, while parents, representatives and the educational community remain attentive to the official results that will clarify the fact and prevent similar situations in the future.
