Saint Dominic. The chairman and CEO of the global logistics group DP WorldSultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, stated that The Dominican Republic has established itself as a reliable destination for foreign investmentthanks to its economic stability, political leadership and favorable business climate.
During his participation in a high-level panel at the World Governments Summit 2026 (World Governments Summit – WGS)along with the president Luis Abinaderthe executive highlighted the country’s sustained growth and its strategic positioning in international trade.
“The country is attractive because there is trust, there is economic flow and there is a government that supports business development,” said Ahmed bin Sulayem.
Bin Sulayem recalled that DP World has been present in Dominican territory for 25 yearsperiod in which he has developed key projects of logistics and port infrastructurestrengthening connectivity between United States and Latin America and facilitating the country’s integration into global supply chains.
When referring to the beginning of operations, he explained that “when we started, the airport was only a transition point,” but they identified a high strategic potential in the connection between the airport and the port.
“Many thought it wasn’t going to work, but we did it. Today I can clearly say that it was a great success,” he said.
He highlighted that currently the airport is “one of the most advanced and best connected between the United States and Latin America.”
US$750 million in logistics expansion
The business leader highlighted the magnitude of the investment made by the group in the country.
“We invested around $750 million in the expansion,” he said.
He specified that this investment made it possible to significantly expand operational capacity, by going from 900 thousand to 3.1 million containersconsolidating the Dominican Republic as a regional logistics hub.
Likewise, he valued the business climate and the dynamism of the Dominican free zoneswhich have attracted new international companies interested in operating from the country.
Bin Sulayem also highlighted the leadership of President Luis Abinader and his closeness to the business sector.
“The president’s leadership for business is incredible and very close to the business sector,” he said.
He added that “leadership creates jobs, while lack of leadership creates poverty,” directly linking political stability with sustainable economic growth.
The executive also highlighted the tourism potential of the Dominican Republic, pointing out that destinations such as Punta Cana They show how a strategic vision can transform territories into growth poles with direct connections to Europe and America.
In his opinion, the combination of strategic geographic location, investment-friendly policies, sustained economic growth and institutional stability makes the country a natural partner for global trade.
With these statements at the 2026 World Government Summit, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem reaffirmed the interest of international capital in continuing to expand operations in the Dominican Republic, which he defined as an example of how leadership and institutional trust can be translated into economic development.
President Abinader was accompanied on the panel by Ministers Magín Díaz (Finance and Economy); Víctor -Ito- Bisonó (Housing and Buildings); Sigmund Freund (Public Administration); the Vice Minister of Planning and Public Investment, Luis Madera Sued; the executive director of ProDominicana, Biviana Riveiro; the director of the Presidential Office, Noelia Shephard; the director of the Presidential Cabinet, Eilyn Beltrán; and the Dominican ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Renso Antonio Herrera Franco.
