The transport union warns that the current rate is insufficient and proposes anchoring the fare at $0.50

José Luis Montoya, president of the Single Central of Free Cars and by Position, warned that the last adjustment to the price of the ticket was insufficient to cover the operating expenses of the sector, for which he reiterated the transport union proposal of anchor the rate at $0.50, as well as a thorough review of the subsidy system, to guarantee the continuity of the service.

Direct bonus proposal for vulnerable users

Among the main initiatives proposed by the union, Montoya highlighted the replacement of the indirect subsidy with a monthly transportation voucher of between 30 and 40 dollars, aimed at students and seniorswhich would allow these sectors to pay the full rate without affecting their economic capacity.

He indicated that this scheme, inspired by the financing mechanisms originally managed by the National Urban Transportation Fund Foundation (Fontur), seeks to balance operating costs, which far exceed the daily collection of transporters.

Rejection of the biopayment and footprint system to supply fuel

The transport union also demanded a definitive solution to the fuel supply crisis, with the elimination of the biopayment system and the footprint for access to gasoline.

“The fingerprint system is not a solution for transporters. We waste too much time and, in addition, a large part of the sector is discriminated against, because not everyone has access to that mechanism,” said Montoya.

He clarified that the union is not requesting free fuel, but rather equitable conditions for working, and assured that They would be willing to pay a price per liter of between 0.20 and 0.25 dollarsprovided that free access to any service station in the country is guaranteed, without restrictions or forced overnight stays.

“This problem of getting up early to pass the mark really limits and exhausts the sector. Whole days are lost trying to supply the vehicles,” he said.

Transport union asks for credits to modernize the fleet

Another of the union’s demands is the reactivation of credit portfolios in public and private banks, with the aim of renewing a fleet which he said is highly deteriorated after years without financing.

Montoya also denounced the unjustified retention of at least 12 transport units for two years, which have been labeled by police forces without legal basis.

“It is very unfortunate that this situation continues; these vehicles have owners and they are taking them away from working people,” he denounced.

The union demanded that the Prosecutor’s Office and the State authorities immediately release the detained vehicles and urgent attention to their structural demands.
