The governor of the state of Táchira, Freddy Bernal, supported the General Amnesty Law proposal presented by President (E) Delcy Rodríguez, describing it as a fundamental legal-political instrument to consolidate peace and dialogue in the country.
Bernal emphasized that this measure is a clear example of the Bolivarian Government’s will to find democratic solutions. “The opposition has to understand that the path is not terrorism, nor calling for invasions or coups d’état, but the vote,” stated the regional leader, stressing that the regulations should not cause concern in the population.
The governor recalled that Venezuela has a tradition in the use of this tool to pacify the Republic. He recalled the year 1992, when then-president Rafael Caldera applied a similar measure that allowed the Bolivarian military to abandon the path of arms. Likewise, he cited the pardon granted after the events of the coup d’état against President Chávez.
The proposal, which covers the period of political violence from 1999 to the present, will be processed by the Presidential Commission for the Revolution of the Justice System and the Program for Democratic Coexistence and Peace. Both instances will be responsible for submitting the bill to the National Assembly for debate and subsequent approval.
