The blockade occurred in the middle of the Constitution Day holiday weekend. Thousands of people trying to return from the beaches and towns of Guerrero to Mexico City were affected.
The Salgado Government sent the Secretary of Public Security, Daniel Ledesma, and the Undersecretary of Political and Social Affairs of the General Secretariat of Government, Francisco Rodríguez, to speak with the protesters.
On January 30, members of the self-defense groups forcibly entered the communities of Tecoanapa and Juan R. Escudero, supposedly in search of elements of “Los Ardillos”, another of the criminal groups that besiege the region.
”Los Rusos”, linked to the self-defense groups, are identified as a cell of the Sinaloa Cartel.
For its part, the UPOEG has pointed out Óscar Sánchez, mayor of Juan R. Escudero, for his alleged links with ”Los Ardillos”.
Guerrero has been immersed in violence for several decades. However, insecurity has increased in recent years due to the conflict between ”Los Ardillos” and ”Los Tlacos”.
Federal authorities issued alerts to citizens due to the effects on traffic to the Mexican capital.
