President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva celebrated the victory of Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia at the 2026 Grammy Awards, this Sunday (1st). “Proud to see two giants of our art being celebrated like this,” wrote Lula in a post on social media.
The brothers won in the Best Global Music Album category with the album Caetano e Bethânia Ao Vivo. The production is a record of the two artists’ tour.
“Your music crosses generations, touches the soul of our people and shows the world the greatness of Brazilian culture”, added Lula.
The album, recorded throughout the tour that filled stadiums in several Brazilian cities, brings together hits from the two artists’ individual trajectories, such as Reconvex and Unholy Cowin addition to an unreleased version of Faithcomposition by Iza with new reading in the brothers’ voices.
According to Maria Bethânia, the first Grammy represents international recognition after decades of career.
For Caetano, this was his sixth Grammy nomination and third award. The artist from Bahia has already won twice: with Book (1998) and João Voice and Guitar (2000), an album by João Gilberto that he produced.
The Grammy Awards are the main awards ceremony in the world music industry.
