Venezuela suspended commercial flights to and from the Dominican Republic on July 31, 2024, three days after the presidential elections, whose results were questioned by the opposition and the international community demanded transparency in the counting of votes.
The governments of the Dominican Republic and Venezuela agreed to reactivate consular services and the air connection between both countries “in the coming days”, suspended since July 2024.
In a statementpublished by the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, it was reported that “it has been decided to reactivate in the coming days the consular services of the Dominican Republic in Caracas and of Venezuela in Santo Domingo, to serve the respective communities.”
Both governments, the statement adds, “have agreed to instruct the respective aeronautical authorities to reactivate the air connection between both countries.”

The Government of the Dominican Republic has repeatedly said that it did not recognize Nicolás Maduro, captured on January 3 in a United States military operation, as Venezuelan president, due to the lack of publication of the disaggregated results that would prove his victory.
In June 2025, the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC) reported on the immediate resumption of commercial air operations of passengers, cargo and mail to and from the Dominican Republic. However, the president of the Civil Aviation Board of that country denied the information.
